Dawn Wisdom has been teaching music for 37 years, 30 of them as vocal music director at Cheyenne Mountain High School in Colorado.  Her first teaching years were in Nebraska, which is also where she earned her BA in K-12 Vocal and Instrumental Music at University of Nebraska-Kearney.  She serves as the Chair of Vocal / General Music for the Colorado Springs District 12 Schools and directs five choral ensembles at CMHS.


Dawn has served on the leadership boards of the Colorado Music Educators Association, the Colorado ACDA, and the national AEA board.  She is a sought-after clinician, guest conductor and adjudicator, and most recently conducted a regional Honor Choir in Wyoming.  She was selected as the 2019 ABE Performing Arts Teacher of the Year, the 2011 Pikes Peak Choral Educator of the Year, and the 2001 CMHS Teacher of the Year.

   

Her choirs at Cheyenne Mountain High School have traveled to state, national and regional festivals earning consistent superior ratings under her direction.  Dawn's choirs have opened for several professional groups and have enjoyed performing special concerts in the community and across the USA.   Under her direction, CMHS ensembles have performed at CMEA multiple times.


Dawn has hosted the CHSAA Show Choir Festival and CHSAA Jazz & A Cappella Festival at her school for two decades, and hosts Aca on the Mountain - a bi-annual A Cappella Festival for HS and collegiate groups. Her own CMHS A Cappella group Crimson & Slate is a nationally recognized ensemble having appeared in the ICHSA National Finals 8 times, the AEA National Championship, the NCHSA National Final, and the NACC National HS Showcase.
